Only recently we reported that a Sprint subscriber had received the Moto X Android 4.4.2 update even though the carrier is yet to publicly roll out said firmware. Moto X users in the U.S. are anxiously waiting on their carriers to roll out the latest iteration of KitKat, but so far there’s no official word as to when said firmware is going to be released. It appears that T-Mobile might be gearing up to do so in the near future, as the carrier has started reaching out to people, inviting them to take part in a “soak test” for an upcoming firmware update.
T-Mobile subscribers who have signed up for Motorola’s Feedback Network have received invitations from the carrier for a confidential test which will give them access to an unreleased firmware version. While the email doesn’t explicitly mention that said version is Android 4.4.2, its highly likely that this is the update in question, as there’s not really another iteration that would be put through a soak test right now. Carriers conduct soak tests on a small scale, these are basically standard tests before the wider public roll out of a new firmware. These tests are conducted to ensure that there are no issues with the firmware itself, and if testers are able to point some out, the carrier is able to promptly fix them.
