Flappy Bird may have been a global sensation in its own right, but nothing brought birds and smartphones together like Angry Birds. Rovio’s flagship title has since spread to a plethora of form factors and platforms. The company continues to update the title once in a while, add new levels and select new themes to build the infamous bird slinging game on. Recently it has been teasing a whole new Angry Birds title, one that could stray from tradition. Called Angry Birds Epic, its going to be a turn based RPG.
This turn based role playing game is a departure from the conventional Angry Birds titles, where all users do is sling birds at pigs. Angry Birds Epic will come with a crafting system and offer turn-based combat. Players will be allowed to craft weapons, potions and armor. It won’t all be available for free. The game’s item system will be dependent upon virtual currency, which players will be able to purchase by spending real money through in-app purchases.
Initially Angry Birds Epic is only going to be soft launched in Australia and Canada later this week. More countries will receive the title in the weeks to come. Rovio says the game is its most “epic” soft launch to date.
