comixologyIf you’re an avid comic book reader, chances are you might have downloaded the comiXology app for your smartphones or tablets. For those unfamiliar with the app, basically it gives users access to hundreds, if not thousands of comics published by a variety of publishers, including Marvel and DC.

Unfortunately it seems that comiXology had a recent security scare and has since sent out emails to comiXology users asking them to reset their passwords. Now thankfully it seems that payment details were not breached as apparently payment account information was not stored on their servers.

In the email that was sent out, “In the course of a recent review and upgrade of our security infrastructure, we determined that an unauthorized individual accessed a database of ours that contained usernames, email addresses, and cryptographically protected passwords.”

They have also pointed users to the password reset page on their website where users will be able to go and reset their passwords. We can only assume that security by comiXology will be beefed up after this little security scare, but in the meantime you should probably take this opportunity to select a more secure password while you are there.

This is actually the second password reseting incident we’ve heard about this week. Just the other day it was reported that Twitter experienced a system error that accidentally reset the passwords of some of their users. So, any of our readers comiXology subscribers who were affected by this password reset?
