We know that companies have been making efforts at improving the sound quality of the speakers coming from our phones, and to be honest they have come a long way from back in the day of monophonic ringtones or polyphonic, to finally being able to use actual MP3s as our ringtones.

Of course that’s well and good but if the speakers suck, we guess what’s the point right? Why even bother in the first place? Thankfully things have changed with efforts from companies like HTC and Sony, with HTC opting for the front-facing stereo BoomSound speakers, while Sony has opted for the S-Force Front Surround system in the Xperia Z2.

So which phone does it better? Well in a video comparison done by Btekt, they have compared both the HTC One M8 and the Sony Xperia Z2 against one another to see whose speaker does better. The test involves playing music from a wide range of musical genres, including pop, hip hop, classical, folk, and drum and bass.

Based on what we can hear, it seems that the HTC One M8 slightly outdoes the Xperia Z2 and is a noticeable upgrade from last year’s HTC One. The sound does sound slightly clearer and crisper, but then again perhaps the fact that the Xperia Z2 is water resistant and has some protection against any ports or openings that it could have ultimately affected the sound quality.

Of course speakers are just one of the factors that is taken into consideration when choosing a new phone but if they’re a priority to you, check out the video above and let us know what do you guys think!
