One might think that there are already a lot of blogging platforms out there and that there’s certainly no need for any more. Twitter and Blogger co-founder Evan Williams would disagree with you. Back in 2012 he started Medium, a new blogging platform that is yet to push into mobile. With a steadily increasing user base, the startup has decided to step into the mobile arena. Medium’s first iOS app is going to launch next week, this according to a report by Fortune.

It is not known right now if and when an Android version of the Medium app is going to be released, Williams didn’t mention anything about it during Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech dinner in Menlo Park, California. Even on iOS the app can initially only be used for content consumption rather than content creation, so it will take some time before Medium truly supports at least two of the most widely used mobile platforms out there.

In recent months Medium’s user base has surged quite a bit. In December the startup reported that it had 9 million unique monthly users, as of this month it has 13 million. Medium offers a refreshing take on blogging, its focused around the curation of interesting information as content is organized and collected based on specific themes.
