iphone-5s-review-009

Just like last year, Apple is expected to launch two new iPhones in 2014, however its expected to shake things up a bit. For the first time Apple may be considering launching iPhones with displays larger than what it has previously used, and the two new models are also expected to come with a revamped design. The folks at Macotakara, a usually reliable source for Apple rumors, say that 4.7 inch and 5.7 inch display touting iPhones will be out later this year and that design cues will be borrowed from iPhone 5c and the 7th generation iPod nano.

Now one might find fault in this, given the fact that iPhone 5c hasn’t actually been a hit, the iPhone 5s has outperformed it by leaps and bounds. The rumor isn’t about iPhone 5c’s plastic body being taken further, it about combining its design elements with that of the iPod nano. Both products are offered in a wide range of colors, with the iPad nano being fashioned out of anodized aluminum instead of plastic.

It is said that the volume and mute button shape on the new iPhones will be similar to that of the iPhone 5c, and that the new smartphones will retain rounded back edges introduced in Apple’s unapologetically plastic iPhone. Holes found on the bottom of this phone, for speaker and the microphone, are also expected to make their way over to the two large iPhones.

Rumor has it that the 5.7 inch iPhone is going to be seven millimeters thick, making it half a millimeter thinner than the iPad Air. This would entail that the rear camera may have to protrude nominally from the shell, something we’ve already seen on the fifth generation iPod touch. The possibility of this model being made thicker to prevent protrusion hasn’t been ruled out. It remains to be seen if Apple goes with plastic this time around as well, recent rumors suggest that the iPhone 5c’s plastic body may finally get the axe and that the company would stick to making phones with aluminium for now.
