Recently there have been a lot of rumors that Apple might be working on a new set-top box. The company’s TV offering hasn’t been updated for quite a while now, even though it was expected that a new Apple TV set-top box will be released late last year. Now rumors suggest that it may be unveiled within the next few months, but Jim Dalrymple of The Loop claims that its not going to happen any time soon. Dalrymple has been right on many occasions before, his predictions are presumed to carry weight.

A few days back the Los Angeles Times reported that since Apple is now offering a $25 iTunes Gift Card with every set-top box, its a sign that a successor is just around the corner. It certainly could be seen as that, one could make the case that Apple is running this promotion so as to get rid of existing inventory before the new set-top box is released. Dalrymple’s response is aimed at the report, pouring water at the rumors with his signature “Nope” statement.

Another recent report, this one from the Financial Times, suggest that Apple is currently working on a “significantly redesigned” Apple TV which is going to be released this summer, presumably close to the Worldwide Developers Conference. The company, as always, is tightlipped on the matter.
