nintendo-logoNintendo has never been shy when it comes to standing their ground with regards to releasing games for mobile. In fact it was only until recently that Nintendo opened themselves up to the idea of expanding the licensing of their characters and franchises to third parties, but still remained firm on the idea of not releasing games for mobile.

In fact a recent message by Nintendo’s president, Satoru Iwata, reiterates that point where he states that Nintendo will remain focused on first-party hardware and software, as they believe that is their strength.

According to the message (which can be read in its entirety on Nintendo’s website), “We believe that we can capitalize the most on our strengths through a hardware-software integrated platform business, and therefore this type of dedicated video game platforms will remain our core focus.”

It is commendable that Nintendo is sticking to their beliefs. After all we have seen success when it comes to first-party hardware and software integration, like Apple and their Mac computers that runs Apple’s own OS X, and the iPhones which too are powered by Apple’s iOS.

The message goes on to state that Nintendo has experienced much success and failures, but believes that they will succeed by releasing products that improves the people’s quality of life. “Nintendo has continued to try new things, and with a history of experiencing many failures and small successes, we managed to pioneer the home video game market. What has remained the same from the past is that we have always tried to create something new from materials and technologies available at that time, to position entertainment as our core business and to improve people’s QOL in enjoyable ways.”
