Ever since Target announced that it has been the victim of a massive security breach, there have been many reports indicating that its possible for other major U.S. retailers to have been attacked as well. Luxury retailer Neiman Marcus did find that it too had been the victim of a similar breach, which some security researchers have claimed that at least five other retailers have also been breached. Sears is now “actively reviewing” its systems to determine if it has been the victim of a breach, the retailer’s name hasn’t come up in previous related reports.

Howard Riefs, a spokesman for Sears, says that up till now they have not found any information after review of their systems that there has been a breach. Earlier in the week it was reported that the U.S. Secret Service was investigating a potential breach at Sears, though the report didn’t disclose the scope or timing of said breach nor did it identify its source by name.

With over 2,500 retail stores operating in both U.S. and Canada, Sears definitely remains a major target for attackers, particularly those who were behind the Target attack. It is believed that the criminal ring is based in Eastern Europe, and that the malware used at Target was actually written by a teenager.
