sony-a77We have been hearing a lot about the Sony A77’s successor, which at the moment is apparently going to be known as the A77II which is a little odd as far as naming schemes are concerned. Unfortunately there has not been word on when the camera could be launched, and safe to say that photographers who hoped it would be revealed at CP+ in February are disappointed to say the least.

Well the good news is that according to a recent report from Sony Alpha Rumors, they claim that according to their source, they have learnt that the Sony A77II will be announced in May, or at least has been scheduled for an announcement in May.

We’re not sure if Sony will be holding a press conference specifically for the announcement, or if they will simply announce the new camera via press release on their website. Either way we’ll be marking our calendars for May and will be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for more information.

Specifications of the camera also remain somewhat a mystery at this point in time, but apparently we can look forward to a camera with a new and very fast autofocus system, no EVF lag, and a very speedy processor as well, which we guess basically equates to a camera that is quick on the trigger (or shutter, if you will).

Sony Alpha Rumors’ sources have also revealed that there will be other announcements that Sony will make apart from announcing the A77II, such as new lenses for both Sony’s A and E-mount. In any case try not to get your hopes up too much for now, but check back with us at a later date to see if there are any additional details to be had.
