The Sony Xperia Z2 is the company’s latest flagship smartphone. The handset was unveiled at MWC 2014 and naturally it did feature some upgrades over its predecessor, the Sony Xperia Z1 which was launched in the later part of 2013.

Now apart from the obvious changes in hardware, there is one piece of upgrade that is very noticeable, and that is the Xperia Z2’s stereo speakers. For those unfamiliar, the Xperia Z1 came with a mono speaker which  was more than capable of getting the job done, but when placed side-by-side with the Xperia Z2, sounded downright dull.

This comparison was caught on video by the folks at Taiwanese website, ePrice, where they compared the sound coming from both phones. Both the volumes were set at max, and both phones played the same song (Katy Perry’s Roar, for those wondering).

While the sound obviously cannot be compared to the sound coming from actual dedicated speakers, they are surprisingly decent for a phone. The audio coming out sounds less muted and fuller, so for those who watch a ton of video, listen to songs, or talk on the phone via loudspeaker, we reckon you should be happy with the quality.

In any case check out the video above so you can judge the quality for yourselves! In the meantime we have to admit we are curious as how the Xperia Z2’s stereo speakers will hold up in the face of the All New HTC One which will be coming with front-facing stereo speakers.
