xbox-one-sellerSoftware sales might be in decline for February 2014, where new game sales fell by 9% year-over-year to $318 million, but hardware sales have swooped in to help save the day. In fact, the release of the new PS4 and Xbox One consoles continued the momentum in the right direction, where the gap between the two competing consoles have also narrowed by quite a considerable margin. Since Microsoft did announce that it sold 258,000 Xbox Ones last month, PS4 sales figures should be a wee bit more than that. Could swing gamers affect the sales figures differently this month?

Nintendo also attributed a 180% increase in Wii U hardware sales, which is most probably aided by the launch of Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, that itself sold 130,000 copies (physical and digital together).

February, the month of love. Coincidentally this year, Valentine’s Day, which falls on February 14th, is also the very same day on the Chinese lunar calendar where Lover’s Day happened, making it a rare occurrence when the two calendars overlap. With so much love in the air last month, here is more good news – the NPD Group has confirmed that monthly US retail sales have increased by 9% year-over-year to achieve the $887 million mark, which is a stark contrast to the 21% drop in total spending which was reported back in January.
