Just because one is disabled, this does not mean that one should not be entitled to have some fun and recreation time, especially where videogames are concerned. Hence, it is nice to see the University of Toronto opening its Accessibility Arcade this coming April 26th, where it showcases different technologies that will enable disabled gamers to have a go as well.
There is talent in this group of gamers, make no mistake about it, and to find an avenue that will allow such talent to flourish is definitely a commendable effort. The Accessibility Arcade is the brainchild of the AbleGamers Foundation, where its opening celebration will happen at the Semaphore Research Cluster.
Potential attendees will be able to register for tickets at Eventbrite. Do expect the grand opening to involve demonstrations in addition to “a master class on digital games and accessibility” by AbleGamers founder Mark Barlet. There will be staff on hand who will be more than happy to provide advice as to the recommended equipment that one ought to purchase, depending on one’s disability. Do bear in mind that the Accessibility Arcade will be open to the public by appointment only, so you cannot simply waltz it as you like with a bag of quarters.
