apple-iwatch-2013If you think that your skin is way too sensitive to be under direct sunlight and need to wear sunblock all the time (at least you won’t sparkle like a Cullen), perhaps it would be wise to move somewhere where there is very little sunlight all year round. That might be impossible and way too depressing, so how about making sure that you are alerted of the dangers of being sunburnt while you are out? Apparently, Blayne Curtis, an analyst at Barclays, claim that the upcoming Apple smartwatch (that has been conveniently nicknamed the iWatch so far) is advanced enough to feature UV exposure sensors, ensuring that the watch’s owner would not end up scorched unnecessarily.

Apparently, Curtis also noted that these UV exposure sensors would hail from Austin, Texas based Silicon Labs. The company did make an announcement of the chip in February, touting that they happen to be “the first single-chip digital UV index sensors.”

Of course, these UV exposure sensors do a whole lot more than just protect you from ending up with a nasty and painful sunburn. They are also handy when it comes to performing other health related readings, including measuring your existing heart rate, pulse and blood oxygen level. This is made possible thanks to the use of infrared and ambient light meters, where the sensor also doubles up as a proximity and a gesture control sensor, with the entire sensor measuring around 2mm square, now how about that?
