pantech-im888sPantech might be a name that is familiar to some of you guys. The company is a South Korean company, although probably not as well known as Samsung or LG, but they have released some pretty decent smartphones in the past. That being said, it looks like the South Korean company has a high-end smartphone up their sleeves in the form of the Pantech IM-A888S.

This was recently discovered on the AnTuTu benchmarks, although we should note that benchmarks can be faked, so there’s always the possibility that the results might not be the real deal. Then again we don’t see why Pantech can’t be working on a high-end device, so make what you will of it.

In any case according to the AnTuTu listing, the Pantech IM-A888S will be part of the company’s Vega lineup of smartphones. The benchmark results also shows that the phone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 processor, a chipset that is only expected to see a release in May. Interestingly enough this seems to line up with previous rumors of a certain Pantech Vega Iron 2 that we heard about back in March.

Apart from the Snapdragon 805 chipset, the IM-A888S also appears to sport a 2,560×1,440 display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, Android 4.4.2 KitKat, and a weird camera setup of 2MP + 2MP. We’re not sure if this is some kind of new setup that Pantech will be using, like how the HTC One M8 has a 4MP camera, or if it could listed in error.

No word on when Pantech plans on launching the device, but assuming that the specs are accurate, the Pantech IM-A888S (possibly the Vega Iron 2) could be a handset worth keeping an eye out for.
