civilization-beThe folks over at 2K and Firaxis Games have announced that Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth is being developed by the latter for Windows-based machines. Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth happens to be a brand new science fiction-themed entry in the Civilization franchise, where it will also eventually make its way to the Mac and Linux platforms via Aspyr Media. Touted for a release later this fall, Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth will see players embark on an expedition from Earth all the way to a whole new frontier, where they will need to explore and colonize an alien planet, and of course, create a new civilization along the way.

I guess when you are more or less done and dusted with the past civilizations, it makes perfect sense to explore one’s future in an alien environment. After all, isn’t space the final frontier? Players can lead factions that have been divided by contrasting cultures for the first time, where their new civilizations will evolve to reflect their chosen destiny.

A slew of new gameplay possibilities are part of the mix, where among them include nonlinear technological progression, a deeper customization of chosen factions, and a whole new alien world which will change the very identity of each faction based on their choices. Expect Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth to retail for $49.99 a pop when it arrives later this fall, although it has yet to be rated by the ESRB. [Press Release]
