sleep infoWith our smartphones these days being more than capable of just receiving text messages and placing calls, we find ourselves addicted to them and for some of us, it’s usually the last thing we do before bed, such as surf Facebook, check on Twitter, browse Instagram, and so on. This is apparently not a very good habit as the light emanating from the phone is bad for the eyes, especially in the dark, but it also disturbs our sleep as well.

This is according to an infographic released by Big Brand Beds, a company in Britain. According to the infographic, it has been found that 95% of electronics owners use their devices in the hour before they go to bed. It has also been found that a staggering 95% of 18-29 year olds sleep with their phones next to their bed, and that 50% will even get up in the middle of the night to check on it.

Now we’re sure that there are probably other factors that cause insufficient sleep, such as stress, overthinking, too much caffiene before bed, or maybe even information overload from their smartphones. The infograhpic revealed that 63% of those surveyed said they felt that they did not get enough sleep which is pretty disturbing as this is more than half of those who participated in the survey.

The infographic goes on to state that reading a book before bed will allow for better sleep, or keeping a journal next to bed helps too as this will allow you to get your thoughts out of your head. Gentle and relaxing music will help as well, or if you have to use an electronics device, they suggest an e-reader with an e-ink display that will be kinder on the eyes. What do you guys make of this infographic? Are you finding that you might be excessively using your phone before you sleep?
