fretpen kickstarterThey say the pen is mightier than the sword, but what if the pen was inside the body of a guitar, how does that work? Jokes aside, the device pictured above is called the FretPen which basically combines an actual working guitar and a pen in the same device.

We reckon the pen feature is probably secondary but hey if you ever wanted something scribble down song ideas and test it out at the same time, the FretPen sounds like the perfect device to go about doing that.

While we doubt guitarists will be able to shred killer solos and bang out some awesome riffs, the device does play music and it admittedly sounds pretty good! It features one guitar string, an actual maple fretboard, frets, and four tiny buttons that allows you to shift the scale on the guitar via the companion app.

Now we can’t attest to the comfort levels of playing on such a tiny guitar, but the idea itself is pretty novel, not to mention the tiny guitar, which is a little bigger than the iPhone, is extremely cute. But like we said, if you have some song ideas you want to write down while on the go, the FretPen might be the perfect tool for the job.

Alternatively there are music production apps out there that could get the job done in a better and more comfortable way, but we doubt it’d look this cool. The FretPen is currently a Kickstarter project trying to seek funding, so if you’d like to learn more or pledge a donation, hit up its Kickstarter page for the details.
