Blizzard’s upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, Warlords of Draenor, is expected to see a release later this year, although no specific dates have been mentioned. The expansion will introduce a host of new changes and features made to the game, most noticeably an upgrade to the character models which will see new textures and animations.
We also expect that Blizzard will also be upgrading some of the graphics used in the new zones and perhaps updating some older ones as well, so with that being said, does this mean that gamers will need to upgrade their computers in order to play the game? Blizzard has yet to officially announce the system requirements for Warlords of Draneor, but according to a post on the World of Warcraft forums, a community manager has some answers for some worried gamers.
When asked if the new models cause a further dip in FPS, the community manager admits that this might require more processing power, however he also adds, “We are also applying a squish to anything related to stats; this means that in certain situations, there might be some performance improvements, especially when it comes to addons that process combat data. More importantly, we are reducing the amount of visual clutter that currently fills every fight where a lot of players are involved. Less sparkly stuff flying around means better video performance for everyone.”
Also when asked if a new computer upgrade should be done, he states that he expects the game to remain close to what gamers are experiencing now, so if you’re fine with the way the game is at the moment, you probably won’t need an upgrade. “I’d say that you shouldn’t be worried about any big drop in performance; things will most likely remain very close to what you are experiencing right now. So if you’re satisfied with what you have right now, then there shouldn’t be any need to change anything.”
It’s admittedly a little vague but until Blizzard officially reveals the hardware system requirements for the game, this is all we have to go on for now. In the meantime any gamers planning on upgrading their computer to play Warlords at Draenor at its max settings with silky smooth frame rates?
