galaxy s5 active leakedWe have been hearing about the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active for quite a while now, although we are admittedly curious as to what it could feature. The Galaxy S4 Active features both water and dust resistance, features that have already been made available on the Galaxy S5, so what could Samsung do to differentiate the Galaxy S5 Active from the Galaxy S5? Well according to recently leaked photos, perhaps ruggedness could be one of the ways.

The image above is allegedly that of the Galaxy S5 Active, although we have no way of knowing for sure. However it does seem to line up with previous photos of Galaxy S5 cases. Unlike the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy S5 Active does not appear to be sleek, but rather the emphasis is placed on protecting the handset, as we can see from the bumpers placed around the phone, along with the exposed fasteners that helps provide an industrial look to the device.

Presumably on top of being both water and dust resistant, the phone will also be able to withstand some degree of abuse from being dropped, although we’re not sure from what heights exactly. Hardware specs of the handset are still something of a mystery, although so far what we have learnt is that it could feature a 5.1-inch Full HD display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset on it.

Those are actually pretty decent hardware specs, so if you’re in need of a phone that has power and toughness, perhaps the Galaxy S5 Active could be what the doctor ordered. Unfortunately we still have no clue as to when Samsung will announce the device, but with the handset spotted at the FCC not too long ago, perhaps we won’t have to wait too long to find out more. Until then take it with a grain of salt.
