No matter how big of a battery Apple puts in our iPhones we always seem to run out of juice when we need it the most. After all most of us like to use dozens of apps daily and even keep some of them running in the background, which obviously takes it toll on the battery life. Now there are many solutions that provide backup power but the problem with power banks and battery cases, two of the most popular solutions, is that they’re usually quite large and bulky. Augment aims to do things differently.
There are two main components, the Augment Case and Augment Charge. The product is based on a modular design, much like Google’s Project Ara, where the idea is to swap out components without losing the core functionality of the device.
The case has a soft TPU outer layer with hard PC inner that offers premium protection for the iPhone. The charge has an integrated 1,200mAh battery which provides 60 percent more power for the iPhone when attached with the case. Augment Charge component is both compact and lightweight, weighing in at just 38g and is small enough to fit inside a coin pocket. Thus users don’t have to carry around bulky power banks or use a large battery case with the iPhone.
If you’re impressed by the product and would like to get one, there’s some wait involved. The company behind Augment is seeking $17,000 through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to fund the development. The campaign goes live on May 13th and early backers will be able to get the early bird kit for $45, a full 30 percent off the future retail price.
