Back in the early part of 2013, Caterpillar announced the CAT B15 Android smartphone. Now we’re sure some of you guys are wondering what is a construction machinery company doing building their own smartphones, well it seems that maybe Caterpillar has decided that just like their construction equipment, their phones deserve to be heavy duty too.

Exactly how heavy duty are we talking about? Back when they announced the phone, they also announced that the phone would be made from aluminum and rubber to help the phone survive all sorts of abuse, and a recent video released by the company certainly puts those claims to the test.

In the video, we see the CAT B15 taking a variety of abuse, ranging from being dunked in water, dropped on solid ground, and even have a Caterpillar Multi Terrain Loader, which weighs more than 9,000 pounds by the way, run over it. In that test we see the screen crack, but other than that the phone appeared to be in working condition.

Of course we’re not sure how many of us will ever find ourselves in those kinds of situations, but if rugged and durable is what you’re after, Caterpillar certainly did a good job at convincing us that the CAT B15 is not a device to be trifled with.
