We can only imagine the electricity bill one has to face when they come home and find out that they have left the lights on in one of their rooms when they were away on holiday. However there are times when it is necessary, such as to fool potential burglars that someone is home to deter them, unless of course they don’t care which is a whole different story.

Now if you were after a feature like that, you might be interested to learn that D-Link has recently announced their new WiFi Smart Plug which allows users to control home appliances connected to it via their smartphones. As long as the user has an internet connection, it will allow them to control it anywhere, whether it be at the office, on the drive home, or even from another country.

D-Link is not the first company to try their hand at creating connected home devices. WeMo is another brand that has released such products in the past too, so it looks like D-Link has some competition right out of the door. The Smart Plug will also come with an accompanying app that allows users to monitor how much energy a device uses, so for those who are energy conscious, you will be able to more efficiently manage such home appliances.

The D-Link WiFi Smart Plug will be available starting from today where it will be priced at $49.99 each. It’s a little pricey to pay, especially if you have many appliances around the home, but if unless you’re planning to control all of them, it’s not that bad of a price.
