facebook-baby-kidnapWhen it comes to the social networking tool known as Facebook, it has its fair share of fans as well as others who prefer to remain off the grid. Well, in this particular case, Facebook is more friend than foe, as a bunch of Quebec friends actually managed to track down a kidnapped baby from a hospital in Trois-Rivieres using the social network. The quartet of young people in Quebec were hailed as heroes by the public after they assisted in the search for said newborn.

Earlier on Monday night, the local police issued an alert by putting up a photo of the suspect who managed to kidnap the baby after being dressed as a nurse. The four friends had already begun their search for the baby when they recognized the lady after seeing the suspect’s photo on Facebook. According to the Quebec police, the lady is in her 20s, and is already in police custody in hospital. Thankfully for the baby’s parents, they received their precious newborn within three hours of the alert. Parents of the baby, Melissa McMahon and Simon Boisclair, thanked the local authorities, media and just about anyone who shared the photo for helping find their child over on Facebook, with Ms. McMahon singling out praise for “four marvellous people, whom we had the chance to meet, [who] identified this woman thanks to Facebook”.
