Samsung has made no secret of its intention of competing in the wearable device market. Last year the company launched its first Galaxy Gear smartwatch alongside Galaxy Note 3. Earlier this year it followed up with two new smartwatches and an activity tracker. There have been multiple rumors in the past claiming that Samsung is developing a Google Glass rival presumably called Gear Glass. A new rumor claims that the Gear Glass release might take place with Galaxy Note 4 later this year.

There aren’t a lot of details available about the rumored smart glasses, save for the fact that Samsung has filed for multiple patents related to such a product. Even if it has the patents in hand that doesn’t necessarily mean that the company will come out with such a product. Samsung has officially made no comment or dropped any hint related to a smart glass, so any information about the product should be taken with a grain of salt.

The rumor claims that Gear Glass will run on Tizen like Samsung’s new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches. It is expected to sport a heads-up display and a Bluetooth earpiece which will certainly set it apart from Google Glass.

If Samsung does launch this product alongside Galaxy Note 4 it may beat Google to the market. Google might have created hype for smart glasses ever since it debuted Glass but it still hasn’t detailed a plan for public release. Samsung can seize the opportunity to get a leg up on it. The company announces its Galaxy Note flagships in August/September.
