Metaio, a name that many are familiar with when it comes to Augmented Reality (AR) software as well as solutions, have just announced an unprecedented user interface that Metaio, a name that many are familiar with when it comes to Augmented Reality (AR) actually merges both thermal imaging alongside augmented reality. Calling it the “Thermal Touch” interface, a video of it in action has been recorded for the masses to see just what the future holds.

Just how does “Thermal Touch” work? For starters, it will comprise of an infrared as well as standard camera that will work together, as they run on a tablet PC. This particular prototype would be able to register the heat signature that has been left behind by a user’s finger when touching a surface. The AR software from Metaio will then enhance this experience with AR and computer vision, letting the user enjoy a new way of interacting with digital content in an all-new tactile manner.

Right now, it remains to be seen just what the best graphic user interface (GUI) for wearable headsets is, although different approaches such as voice navigation, companion devices and projection have been explored without a clear winner. Metaio believes that for consumers to be able to adapt to new technology across the board, it will need to fulfill the convenience and accessible criteria, which they think that “Thermal Touch” would fit the bill nicely.
