routeshareHow often have we been given the “I’m on the way” reply when we ask our friends, co-workers, or family members where they are, when in reality they’re still at home or have only just left their house? We’re sure it’s too often too count but for those who are a stickler for punctuality, perhaps Routeshare is an app worth checking out and recommending to your friends/family members who are always late.

On the surface, Routeshare is an app that shares your location with others, which is pretty standard and normal. Other apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Google Maps all have similar options as well, however Routeshare takes it one step further by letting you choose how frequently you want to share your location updates.

What this means is that if you really want to prove to your boss that you were late because you were stuck in a jam, or tell a friend that you’re really on the way and that you’re 15 minutes away, you will be able to do so by having the app share your location updates via email, WhatsApp, and Twitter. The person receiving your location update will be able to see where you are on the map, the speed at which you’re traveling (to make sure you’re not taking your own sweet time), and how long it will take for you to reach your destination.

The app will also be able to learn over time and according to the app’s creator, Emiel Janson, “We’re even locally caching your previous travel times, to learn when you rode your bike to work and ensure it effects the ETA the next time you go by bike to your work.” Routeshare is free for download so if you’d like to check it out, hit up the iTunes App Store for the download.
