As many are aware, the government is currently in shutdown mode. This has resulted in several government agencies putting their work on hold, such as the FCC which has affected certain ongoing transactions, like the T-Mobile and Sprint merger review. However it seems that is not all that the shutdown has affected.

According to a report from Netcraft (via Engadget), it appears that the government shutdown has also ultimately affected several agency websites. They give an example of the US Department of Justice’s website which is currently using a certificate that has expired, meaning that technically these websites are no longer considered secure.

The same also seems to have affected NASA’s website and the Court of Appeals. Depending on which browser you are using, users might actually be blocked from accessing these websites as some browsers might have stricter rules in place when it comes to protecting their users. However as Engadget notes, even if you manage to access them, whether or not your requests can be processed or if they contain the most up-to-date information is unclear.

There is no word on when this shutdown is expected to come to an end, but we imagine that this is only the tip of the iceberg and that this could get worse until the government reopens for business.
