Sony-Xperia-Z2-04

In the first few months of this year a few companies unveiled their 2014 flagships. Sony was one of those companies. While it has already started selling the Xperia Z2 in several markets the smartphone is not coming Stateside anytime soon. But what if you must absolutely get your hands on Sony’s latest flagship? Well there is a way but it’ll cost you quite a lot.

Sony has confirmed that it will sell the Xperia Z2 in the U.S. though initially only through is website. The company hasn’t revealed when it will actually start selling the device and even when it does it remains highly unlikely that U.S. carriers will offer it, meaning that customers will have to pay upfront.

Third party retailer GSM Nation has already started selling the “unofficial” unlocked Sony Xperia Z2 for a pretty steep price of $799. High-end unlocked phones tend to be expensive but this is on a whole different level. Unlocked versions of Galaxy S5 and the new HTC One can be purchased for under $650, so customers are really paying extra for the privilege of getting the Xperia Z2.

The version being sold by this third party retailer is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S. and can be used on their 4G LTE networks. It won’t work with CDMA based carriers like Verizon or Sprint.
