whatsapp-logo-newA couple of days ago, WhatsApp for Windows Phone was removed from the Windows Phone Store. No explanation was given as to why the developers made that decision, but according to a statement released by WhatsApp, they claimed that it was due to technical issues that caused them to pull the app from the store.

The boilerplate statement from WhatsApp’s developers read, “Unfortunately due to technical issues, we have chosen to un-publish WhatsApp Messenger on the Windows Phone platform. We are working  closely with Microsoft to resolve the issues and hope to return to the store shortly. We apologize to our users for the temporary inconvenience.”

WMPowerUser has since reached out to Microsoft who has since issued a statement of their own, “The WhatsApp app has been temporarily removed from the Windows Phone store and will be restored soon. We are in the process of working with WhatsApp to resolve the issue. Thank you for your patience.”

However given that neither side offered an explanation behind their decision is a bit worrying. Some have speculated that it could be due to security issues that WhatsApp/Microsoft might have pulled the app in order to fix it, but what could this mean for current users? Are they exposed and vulnerable in the meantime? In any case hopefully it isn’t anything too serious and we can expect the app’s return shortly.
