Xbox E3 2013 Media Briefing

Sony dabbles in handheld gaming consoles. They diversify its gaming lineup, which also includes full-fledged consoles. Microsoft’s Xbox unit hasn’t gone down this road as yet. There have been rumors in the past of Microsoft considering an Xbox handheld console but it appears that such a product might not be coming anytime in the foreseeable future.

Yesterday Xbox chief Phil Spencer took to Twitter to interact with fans, who obviously had a lot of questions to ask him. One of the questions he was asked was about the possibility of Microsoft building an Xbox handheld gaming console. Spencer gave a candid reply which hints that this isn’t something Microsoft is serious about at this point in time.

“I don’t think we’ll do a dedicated handheld gaming device,” Spencer said, to him it makes more sense to rather just focus on Windows Phone and tablets, “maybe with controller support someday,” he adds.

Spencer also hinted at what Microsoft has in store for fans at E3. From all his tweets it appears that fans are in for a lot of games. He was also asked if Xbox fans can expect external hard drive support to be announced at E3. Spencer said that he is aware this is something people need and have been constantly asking for, without going into specifics he simply advises everyone to “watch the monthly updates.”
