The iPhone 6 isn’t the only new product that Apple is expected to launch this fall. If the company sticks to its traditional release cycles then we may be treated to new tablets towards the end of this year. A new rumor coming in from Korea claims that the iPad Air 2 is ready to enter production, with component production set to reportedly begin later this month.

The rumor doesn’t mention any credible sources so it would be wise to not take everything too literally. It claims that Apple isn’t going to make any design changes to the iPad Air 2 this year. Its even expected to keep the same 2,048×1,536 pixel resolution display.

What Apple is reportedly going to update is what matters the most, the iPad Air 2’s processor. Its believed to be powered by Apple’s new A8 system-on-chip, no word on how much RAM will accompany it. If this rumor is true then the next generation tablet feels more like an incremental update.

Apple is also expected to bump up the existing 5 megapixel camera up to 8 megapixels on its next generation iPad Air. Any improvements to the camera technology have yet to be detailed.

As always, the new iPad Air is expected to be launched this fall. It may also be accompanied by the next generation iPad mini with Retina display, which is also believed to be an incremental update.

With no prior confirmation from Apple on any of this its best to keep an open mind. For all we know the company could be working on some major updates for the tablets. We’ll only know for sure when it tells us.
