NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat franchise has never been shy when it comes to blood, gore, and violence in their video games, and it looks like the upcoming Mortal Kombat X is no exception, except that in this case with its improved graphics, the gore and blood will be kicked up to a whole new level.

During E3 2014, gameplay footage of the game was released. This combines some elements seen from the trailer when it was revealed last week, but the gameplay trailer also shows off two new characters that Ed Boon had promised gamers ahead of its reveal. The characters include a woman who appears to have wings and can summon insects to do her bidding, and the other is a hulking giant with a small person riding his back (think Hodor carrying around Bran Stark).

The gameplay trailer also showed off some the more violent scenes that we can expect from the game, new moves from the new characters, new environments, new slow-mo x-ray effects like the breaking of bones, as well as a couple of new fatalities. If you’re an avid Mortal Kombat gamer then Mortal Kombat X is definitely a game you’ll want to keep your eye out for.

The game is expected to see a release in 2015 across multiple platforms and according to Ed Boon, will run at 60fps with a resolution of 1080p, although we’re not sure if this applies to all platforms or only on next-gen consoles and the PC. In any case if you have a few minutes to spare, check out the gameplay trailer in the video above for the details.
