samsung-galaxy-s5-review-012We have been hearing rumors that Samsung could be working on a higher-end version of the Galaxy S5 handset. Given that the Galaxy S5 is supposed to be the best from Samsung right now, we’re sure that fans can’t be too pleased with a newer and better handset being released so soon after the Galaxy S5, right? In any case we guess it’s still a rumor for now, but according to a post by SamMobile’s editor-in-chief, it seems that the higher-end Galaxy S5 handset could be known as the Galaxy Alpha.

Previously we had been referring to the handset as the Galaxy S5 Prime, because that was what all the rumors were referring to it as. However given that SamMobile has had a pretty good track record when it comes to rumors related to Samsung, there is a good chance that the Galaxy Alpha moniker could be true.

If you’re looking for even more evidence that the Galaxy Alpha is a phone by Samsung, the folks at PhoneArena did some digging around and discovered that Samsung had actually filed for a patent for the Galaxy Alpha name. This seems to suggest that the Galaxy Alpha could be real, but as to whether or not it is the high-end Galaxy S5 handset that we’ve been hearing about remains to be seen.

So far what we know about the Galaxy S5 Prime/Galaxy Alpha is that it is supposed to pack a QHD display. This would be put it in competition with Samsung’s South Korean competitor, LG, whose recent LG G3 managed to beat Samsung to the market with a QHD display. Other rumored features includes a metal build, which could silence the critics who have faulted Samsung for using plastic in the past. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think of the Galaxy Alpha name? Is it a name befitting of such a device?
