Microsoft-owned Skype recently revealed its most refined version of the iOS app. Apart from adding new features the new application brings a new user interface that also includes smooth animations. Take one look at it and you’ll think that it brings a Windows Phone-esque flavor to the iOS app.

As projected, the Skype 5.0 for iPhone application has been released today. It appears to be rolling out in the App Store in stages. Some users are already seeing it in the “Update” pane in App Store but aren’t able to download it just yet. It’ll probably take some time before the app becomes available across all regions, so a little patience would certainly go a long way.

The notification system has been refined so that it now works across different Skype platforms, including but not limited to PC, Xbox and the iPhone. The app also comes with a revamped group chat feature which can be launched from the main hub. Skype claims that this app is up to five times faster than its predecessor, apart from being more reliable and more stable.

Skype is also working on a revamped version for the iPad but it hasn’t said when we can expect it to go live. Skype 5.0 for iPhone is now live in the App Store.
