Which console is winning the console war? Is it the Sony PlayStation 4 or the Microsoft Xbox One? Well based on the figures, Sony appears to be in the lead with 7 million units sold, while Microsoft has managed 5 million units sold to retailers, which really isn’t the same as gamers buying it.

So what’s Sony’s advantage? Why are they in the lead? Could it be the price? Perhaps – after all the PS4 launched $100 cheaper than the Xbox One, but now thanks to new numbers compiled by iSpot, it seems that advertising and marketing could have been one of the reasons why the PS4 might have done better, at least to date.

According to iSpot, they found that Sony has spent much more on advertising the PlayStation 4 via TV ads compared to Microsoft. Through the end of May, it was found that Sony had spent $59 million, versus Microsoft who spent $34.7 million. The numbers were counted from January at the start of the year, so we can only imagine the numbers might be higher if we were to take November/December 2013 into consideration as well.

If there are TV channels that either company focused on, it would be FOX’s channels and Comedy Central. iSpot also found that Sony’s most effective ad would be their “Greatness” one which you can check out in the video above. In the meantime what do you guys think? Could a larger advertising budget be the reason why the PS4 outsold the Xbox One?
