Microsoft has been able to get a number of new OEMs on board to build Windows Phone devices and that may pay off in the long run particularly in markets where the platform has little presence. A couple of local manufacturers from India have signed up as well and one of them might soon unveil the “world’s lightest smartphone” that would be powered by Windows Phone. XOLO, the manufacturer in question, just launched a new Windows 8.1 powered tablet earlier in the week.

The report comes from a local news outlet down in India. This is XOLO’s first Windows Phone smartphone and it may be looking to enter the arena with a bang. This is an OEM that has previously focused exclusively on Android smartphones and tablets. The smartphone’s defining feature is said to be its ultra-light body.

The Times of India reports that the XOLO Win phone is going to have a 4.7-inch display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quadcore processor under the hood backed by an Adreno 302 graphics processing unit. Resolution of the display is unclear at this point in time. Its rumored to weigh just 100g, less than Apple’s iPhone 5s which comes in at 113g and even less than the Galaxy S4 Mini which weighs 107g.

While the OEM didn’t comment on the report, it is believed to launch this smartphone in the coming weeks. It may hit the Indian market for as little as $200, highly unlikely that its going to be exported elsewhere.
