activision-blizzardThere are many reasons to dislike a game. It could be that the gameplay is horrible, or that it has horrible graphics, or that there are bugs that just makes the entire game unplayable. Then there are some who are bothered by how some games are stereotypes of some religion/races which puts them off, and there are some who believe that games are diverse enough.

Well one former Blizzard fan has written in to the company, expressing his concern about the game’s lack of inclusivity, namely women and people of color. He then wrote that when Blizzard did include women and people of color, they tended to be portrayed as villainous characters or ended up dying too fast to make an impact.

Blizzard’s boss, Mike Morhaime, has since replied and promised that this is an area in which Blizzard is actively discussing. “We are very conscious of the issues you raise and are discussing them more than ever, at every level of the company, in an effort to make sure our games and stories are as epic and inclusive as possible.”

Morhaime goes on to state that they are challenging themselves to draw from more diverse voices and looking at their story developments to accurately reflect the values of the company. “We’ve always believed that positive, lasting change comes from examination, discussion, and iteration, and this applies as much to story as to gameplay. There is no reason why inclusivity should come at the expense of an amazing game experience.”

Kudos to Blizzard for being so open and receptive to the idea, but now we guess we’ll just have to wait and see what they actually plan on doing about it, but what do you guys think? Are games these days not inclusive enough?
