windows-phone-81-cortana-14Who would have thought that Microsoft’s Cortana voice assistant would prove to be quite the seer when it comes to predicting results at this year’s edition of the World Cup? As Microsoft continues to work to roll out their voice assistant service for full fledged action across the globe, it seems that some Windows Phone 8.1 users decided to ask Cortana for her opinions on upcoming World Cup matches, and she has proven herself to be accurate in the outcome of all matches since the last update.

Heck, even the Belgium vs US match that saw Tim Howard save a whopping 16 goal-bound shots also saw Cortana put Belgium forward as the eventual winner, although surely she was unable to tell just how heart stopping and heroic Howard’s performance was. Just what kind of sorcery is behind Cortana’s accurate predictions?

It has been attributed to the Bing predictions engine, which has been used before to determine the eventual winner as well as loser in events such as American Idol and Dancing With the Stars. No witchcraft is involved here, but just plain and simple algorithms that were based on previous performance, weather, and different kinds of elements in order to tell who will come out on top. Do you think that Cortana will be able to maintain her unblemished prediction record for the remaining matches? Bookies might not be too happy though at her accuracy.
