There has been much speculation about the future of Google’s Nexus hardware program. The only new device released a few months back was the Nexus 5 smartphone. Since then there have been rumors that Google is killing the Nexus program for good in favor of something called Android Silver. While there’s no confirmation on that front we have also seen rumors about new Nexus hardware, such as the Volantis from HTC. A new report suggests that Motorola might be working on a new smartphone for the Nexus program codenamed Shamu.

Codenames for previous Nexus devices have been based on sea critters which is why it would make sense for this new smartphone to have the Shamu codename. Shamu used to be the star of a killer whale show in San Diego during the 1960s and was the first orca (killer whale) that survived more than 13 months in captivity.

AndroidPolice hears this from its source which hasn’t provided any major details about the device just instead. All there is to know at this point in time is that the Shamu is going to have a 5.9-inch display of unknown resolution as well as a fingerprint sensor. The device is reportedly targeted for a release this November.

More information should pop up in the coming weeks if this device is really destined for the market this November. For now take the report with a grain of salt.
