Before Microsoft’s 2013 tablet event there was an endless stream of rumors about the Surface Mini. It is widely believed that Microsoft stopped production and decided not to announce this tablet alongside the Surface Pro 3. The company hasn’t officially commented on the future of this tablet, if it exists at all, but the rumor mill is churning again nonetheless. The latest being that Surface Mini production has begun once again and now the tablet is expected to be released over the summer.

Previous rumors suggest that one of the reasons why Microsoft stopped production was the heavy competition in this particular niche. Tablets like the iPad mini with Retina display, Amazon Kindle Fire HDX and the Nexus 7 are compelling options for those who want a smaller tablet so the company would have had much more competition to deal with and apparently its tablet wasn’t quite up to the mark.

Even though @evleaks says that the Surface Mini is back in production again he doesn’t confirm if Microsoft has made changes to the tablet so that now it has a better chance of taking up against its rivals. No specifications or features have been released as yet and its unclear if this tablet will run Windows RT or full-fledged Windows 8.1.

As always Microsoft is mum about its tablet plans so for all we know there might not be any truth to this rumor.
