There have been all sorts of rumors about Apple’s first wearable device. The iWatch is expected to be released at some point later this year. We heard one of the most unusual rumors yesterday when it was claimed that Apple is working with Swatch on the iWatch. Apple isn’t a company that you would normally see leaning on someone else for a new product and typically it likes to control all phases of production. While Apple kept mum on the rumor the Swatch Group has released a statement denying any partnership with the Cupertino company.
The rumor mill seems to believe that Apple is looking towards Swiss watch manufacturers in order to set its smartwatch apart from the rest. It was rumored that Apple had tried to poach some engineering talent from major Swiss watchmakers but it didn’t have much luck, though recently it did manage to poach a top marketing executive from Tag Heuer.
In a statement provided to Reuters, the Swatch Group says that it is not working with Apple on anything, calling the rumor “unfounded.” The only business that the Group has with mobile phone makers is as a supplier of integrated circuits and other electronic components.
Swatch also said a few weeks back that it would fight the iWatch trademark, which would have certainly looked odd if both companies were working together, but now you know that they aren’t.
