thiefVery rarely do movies about video games do well. Most of the time the movie tends to follow the game’s story too closely and tries to include too many elements from the game, neglecting the story and acting in the process, which in turn leads to a very cheesy film. If you’ve seen the Doom movie, then you know what we’re talking about.

That being said, this hasn’t stopped movie studios and publishers from actively trying to create a great movie, and if you’re a fan of Thief franchise, you might be interested to learn that it has been revealed that Thief movie will be made. The movie will be produced by Adrian Askarieh and Roy Lee, with Askarieh producing other game-related movies in the past like Hitman and the upcoming Agent 47.

This was revealed by Tracking Board who also revealed that the movie will be coming via Vertigo and Prime Universe. Now according to Tracking Board’s report, the Thief movie is expected to be based on the original game from back in 1999 by Eidos, as opposed to the recent reboot by Square Enix, so this could be good news for fans of the original game.

There’s no telling when the Thief movie will be released although based on how it sounds, it seems like it might be in its early planning stages at best, so we guess gamers and fans will have to wait a while before its release. In the meantime what do you guys think? Is a Thief movie something you might be interested in?
