Microsoft has its hands full with software release this month. Over the coming weeks it is expected to roll out Windows Phone 8.1 more broadly across the globe. Several reports have indicated that Windows Phone 8.1 has already been seeded to Lumia devices in certain markets. It appears that Microsoft is looking beyond Windows Phone 8.1 now. The first update for this software is nearing completion and a new report claims that WP8.1 GDR 1 update will enter RTM this week.

RTM is the last stage before a software is shipped out to end users. This could mean that soon after WP users receive the Windows Phone 8.1 software they’ll be treated to its first update as well.

The feature list of WP8.1 GDR 1 won’t be as extensive as WP8.1 itself. We do know that native folder support will be coming to Microsoft’s mobile platform in this particular update, the feature has already been confirmed now its just a matter of waiting for it. GDR 1 will likely bring some tweaks for the system stability and performance as well.

Neowin claims that Windows Phone 8.1 GDR 1 is likely going to hit RTM this week after which it will be subject to carrier testing. Once carriers are done tinkering with it GDR 1 will then be pushed out to the public.
