Not wanting to be left out of the wearable technology craze Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi today released its first ever wearable device. Called the Mi Band it is perhaps one of the cheapest devices of its kind. It can track several health related metrics such as sleep and steps and can also be used as an identity authenticator to unlock a paired Xiaomi smartphone.

The Mi Band was unveiled alongside Xiaomi’s new smartphone today. The Mi4 is Xiaomi’s first ever LTE compatible smartphone which comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB RAM, 13 megapixel rear and 8 megapixel front camera as well as a 5-inch full HD 1080p display. The specifications are certainly good enough to give many a flagship a run for their money.

Xiaomi promises that the Mi Band has a 30-day battery life which is rather interesting since battery life is one of the biggest concerns customers have when they purchase a wearable device. The company also says that the device can be used as a “smart alarm.”

As far as the price goes this wearable device costs approximately $13, keeping in line with Xiaomi’s vision of capturing the market with competitively priced devices. The initial release will no doubt take place in China first after which the company might expand sales of its first wearable device to additional markets that it is considering expanding into.
