Sony is all set to show off some new products at IFA 2014 next month, including the Xperia Z3 flagship, it looks like the company has yet another device up its sleeve. The information that’s available about this device right now suggest that it might be geared towards the entry-level segment of the market. Even though one might expect a smaller device in this segment Sony appears to be going after the crowd that wants phablets on a budget.

An entry on GFXBench benchmark shows that the Sony D2203 has a 6.1-inch FWVGA display with a mere 480×854 pixel resolution. Under the hood there appears to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quadcore processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 1GB as well as an Adreno 305 graphics processor.

A VGA front camera, 5 megapixel rear camera, 4GB onboard storage and support for external expansion through microSD cards is also expected. Presumably the device may be powered by Android 4.4.4 KitKat when it finally hits the market at some point later this year.

It is too soon to say if this smartphone will be released in major markets. For all we know it could be limited to a select few markets in Asia where Sony’s new device could gain traction if its priced competitively enough.

No word as yet from the company on this device and we hear no chatter about the Sony D2203, final moniker not known as of now, being unveiled at Sony’s IFA shindig.
