apple_logo2Apple has been on a hiring spree as of late. While we’re sure Apple hires new employees all the time, these hiring sprees have been somewhat high-profile, and it is also interesting to note because these are individuals who might not have experience in the tech industry, thus giving us clues as to the direction Apple could be headed.

According to a recent report from 9to5Mac, Apple has recently hired Catherine Monier, which for those unfamiliar was fashion label Yves Saint Laurent’s Europe President and Retail Head. Monier also reportedly used to work under Paul Deneve, YSL’s former CEO who now works for Apple as well.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard Apple poach individuals from luxury fashion brands. It wasn’t too long ago that Angela Ahrendts, the former CEO of Burberry, joined Apple’s ranks. Apple had also recently hired TAG Heuer’s vice president of global sales, and with the acquisition of Beats coming to an official close, have added individuals like Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre to their list.

While Apple’s products have integrated themselves into pop culture, it has been suggested that Apple’s hiring of these fashion/lifestyle-related individuals could be because Apple is trying to make themselves more culturally relevant. Of course it remains to be seen how this will play out for Apple in the long run, but it is definitely an interesting direction for the Cupertino company.
