new-amiibo-ukIn June this year, Nintendo made an announcement concerning their Amiibo interactive figures which did carry hope for the Japanese gaming company to be able to claw its way back to the top of the game, but somehow the reception to the idea has been pretty lukewarm, judging by sentiments on the ground. Having said that, for those of you living in the U.K., we have word that the first twelve Amiibo figures have been confirmed, and they will comprise of Mario (but of course!), Peach, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Kirby, Fox, Marth, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer.

It is said that these Amiibo figures will roll out later this winter season, where Super Smash Bros. for Wii U would have the honor of being the very first title that offers complete Amiibo integration. What about some of the other games that will be able to support the Amiibo? They would include the likes of the hugely successful Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10 and Yoshi’s Woolly World. We look forward to an official Amiibo launch date to be announced soon. Assuming Amiibo were to be an unqualified success, do you think that Sony and Microsoft would want to take a similar approach for their respective consoles? [Press Release]
