rapiscanIt looks like the full body scanner that airports employ in their security searches, where these are used to check for concealed weapons or bombs. It does give a sense of security for sure to the passengers, but apparently, research that has been conducted by a trio of universities discovered that the Rapiscan Secure 1000 was unable to detect stuff like knives, explosives and guns. Picking up the Rapiscan Secure 1000 on eBay, the inability for these sensors to discover such concealed weapons was due to the fact that some plumbers tape was used to hide them.

The researchers hail from the University of California, San Diego, the University of Michigan and Johns Hopkins University, and the Rapiscan Secure 1000 arrived wrapped in plastic, going to show just how new it still is. It cost them approximately $50,000 for the entire machine, but here we are with a rather startling discovery, yes?

Apart from that, the scanner proved to be ineffective when it comes to screening contraband against folks who had access to the machine in order to test and refine their methods. Of course, such full body scanners were no longer used since 2013, but they are being installed at different government facilities, ranging from jails to courthouses.
