chrome64bitA couple of months ago, Google announced that they would be releasing the 64-bit version of Chrome as a beta to users who might be interested in taking the browser for a spin. Well the good news is that if you were looking forward to a more stable release, you’re in luck because Google has since announced a stable release of the 64-bit version of Chrome.

Those who are interested in checking out what the 64-bit version of the browser can do for them, just head on over to the Google Chrome website for the download. If you’re wondering if you should bother upgrading to the 64-bit version of Chrome, well there have been several changes and improvements that makes upgrading more compelling.

According to Google, they have found that the native 64-bit version is speedier than previous versions of Chrome. “For example, the VP9 codec that’s used in High Definition YouTube videos shows a 15 percent improvement in decoding performance. Stability measurements from people opted into our Canary, Dev and Beta 64-bit channels confirm that 64-bit rendering engines are almost twice as stable as 32-bit engines when handling typical web content.”

Google also touts security as being better on the 64-bit Chrome browser. “Finally, on 64-bit, our defense in depth security mitigations such as Partition Alloc are able to far more effectively defend against vulnerabilities that rely on controlling the memory layout of objects.” So, what are you waiting for?
